Viewpoints or The Math of Art
Improv can utilize the whole brain, but it's often analyzed purely in a purely artistic terms. It is not uncommon for the analytical and mathematical parts of our thinking atrophy when on stage. There can be a beauty and art found in that part of us as well, and it can be brought out to use our whole brains on stage.
Based partially on Anne Bogart's "Viewpoints", this class will discuss the relationships between space, story, time, emotion, movement, and shape. Improv, like music, is filled with patterns beneath the surface. I hope to help student's recognize those patterns as a tool to create even more amazing art.
