You Must Destroy to Create

out with the old

The Torch has a build permit and we’ve wasted no time getting going on building a home for improv in the valley. After securing written consent from our landlord, we began work on building the new space.

Of course before we can add a stage or a sound booth, we need to do some demolition on the existing structure. Specifically, we need to widen the passage between the lobby and theatre space, take out the wall between the bathroom and tech closet, remove the light fixtures and other ceiling accessories and remove portions of the ceiling for eventual stage lights.

At the risk of sounding optimistic, it’s very likely the demolition portion of our build may be done by the end of February.

Update: The demolition portion is done now.

With the exception of some ceiling work to be completed in the morning, all of the demo work has been completed, meaning we can start putting new materials into the building.

Stay tuned for an introduction to Brad our contractor from tomorrow. In the mean time, enjoy some pictures of our build after the jump.

This used to be a fan.

This used to be an A/C housing.

Literally taking down the lights.

The floor - like Laura Palmer - is wrapped in plastic.

Chairs have to go somewhere.
